The humble cable tie has been with us for nearly 60 years. First invented by Maurus C. Logan at Thomas & Betts in 1958, cable ties have now become a common part of everyday life. Anybody who owns a tool box is bound to have at least one or two cable ties floating near the bottom of it!
What is a Cable Tie?
A cable tie is a type of fastener designed to hold items such as electric cables or wires together. The vast majority of cable ties are normally made from nylon. On the inside or outside of the tie there are finely moulded serrations which allow precise locking of the cable tie around the item to be fastened. Most cable ties are single-use devices, however reusable cable ties are also available.
Why Choose Stainless Steel Cable Ties?
Stainless steel cable ties are a more recent innovation and have been designed to offer a number of advantages over the traditional plastic ties.
Stainless steel cable ties are regularly used in the automotive and aerospace industries as they offer high strength and resistance to corrosion. They also offer good mechanical properties at high temperatures, something a nylon tie can never do.
Cable ties in stainless steel are also popular in food manufacturing environments and in chemical processing industries. There are also some military applications where a stainless steel cable tie is often the best solution.
